How to Properly Select and Use Nail-Free Adhesive

What is nail-free adhesive?

Also known as "liquid nails," nail-free adhesive is a high-strength, multi-functional construction adhesive with exceptional bonding power. As the name suggests, it is an innovative adhesive material designed to replace traditional nails. It can be used to install a wide range of building materials—both indoors and outdoors—without the need for tools such as electric drills, hammers, or expansion anchors. Compared to traditional installation methods involving drilling, nail-free adhesive offers numerous advantages: ease of application, no drilling required, noise-free and dust-free installation, the ability to fill gaps, and the flexibility to adjust positioning during installation. Consequently, it has become increasingly popular in the construction and renovation sectors.

Key Characteristics of Nail-Free Adhesive

A high-quality nail-free adhesive should possess the following core performance attributes:

Rapid Positioning. It offers extremely high initial tack, allowing for quick positioning immediately after application. This significantly boosts construction efficiency, eliminating the need for prolonged pressing or auxiliary supports while waiting for the adhesive to cure.

High Load-Bearing Capacity. Its bonding strength is sufficient to replace traditional nailing methods, ensuring a secure and reliable hold. A soybean-sized amount of adhesive can secure objects weighing several kilograms, truly achieving the goal of "bonding instead of nailing."

Broad Applicability. It demonstrates excellent adhesion to both absorbent and non-absorbent substrates—including wood, ceramic tiles, metal, stone, concrete, and various plastics—meeting the diverse needs of construction and renovation projects.

Convenient Application. It can be applied via spreading, dotting, or beading, flexibly adapting to different working habits. No specialized tools are required; a single tube can handle a variety of fastening needs.

Where is nail-free adhesive primarily used?

It is widely applicable in both new construction and renovation projects. Common applications include door and window casings, staircases and treads, skirting boards, chair rails, plaster moldings, decorative panels, and various decorative materials and stonework. Compatible substrates include a wide range of absorbent and non-absorbent materials, such as wood-based panels, ceramic products, metal, concrete, and stone.

To address these diverse applications and substrates, we offer four specially designed nail-free adhesive products. It is important to note that each product has its own area of specialization; the differences lie not in performance quality, but in optimizations tailored to specific construction scenarios. To help you select the precise product based on the actual installation site:

  1. Interior wall surfaces and woodwork

This category covers elements such as baseboards, crown molding, chair rails, and decorative panels. These are typically located in dry indoor environments where the substrate is wood, drywall, or a painted wall; high standards for eco-friendliness and a clean finish (no visible fasteners) are required. We recommend the N08 General-Purpose Interior Nail-Free Adhesive. It offers strong initial tack for immediate load-bearing without the need for nails, and it does not damage the wall surface upon removal—making it ideal for rapid installation during the finishing stage of a project.

Product Recommendation: XMCN08 and XMCN09

  1. Interior mirrors, lacquered cabinet doors, and high-end decorative materials

Special care is required when installing frameless bathroom mirrors, lacquered panels, high-gloss acrylic trim, or PC plastic components. Solvents found in ordinary adhesives can corrode the silver backing of mirrors (causing blackening at the edges) or damage lacquered surfaces (causing blistering). For these delicate materials, please use the N10 Eco-Friendly Low-Corrosion Nail-Free Adhesive. Its mild formula poses no risk of corrosion to mirrors, lacquered finishes, or engineering plastics; it is also eco-friendly and odorless, making it suitable for use in enclosed indoor spaces.

Product Recommendation: XMCN10 (Low-Corrosion Version)

  1. Exterior decorative molding, signage, and balcony components

Ordinary interior adhesives are unsuitable for components exposed to wind, rain, and sunlight—such as exterior EPS/GRC molding, storefront signage lettering, outdoor wall light bases, and balcony railings. Products with superior water and UV resistance are essential. In these cases, choose the N09 Outdoor-Specific Nail-Free Adhesive. It features excellent water resistance and a wide operating temperature range, ensuring a secure bond that holds firm even during typhoons or freezing winter weather. For standard outdoor renovation applications, N09 offers the best value for money.

Product Recommendation: Liquid Nail Adhesive (Outdoor-Specific) XMCN09 and XMCN15

  1. Heavy-Duty Applications: Large-Scale Outdoor Projects and Metal Curtain Walls

For heavy-duty or demanding outdoor projects—such as large-area aluminum-plastic composite panel curtain walls, stainless steel or aluminum alloy decorative trim, large outdoor billboards, and the securing of insulation layers on factory ventilation ducts—standard outdoor nail-free adhesives may lack the necessary bonding strength and long-term durability. These scenarios demand superior resistance to aging and wind pressure, as well as high structural bonding strength. The N15 Weather-Resistant Construction-Grade Nail-Free Adhesive was developed specifically for these needs. As a construction-grade product utilizing a high-performance synthetic rubber system with a high solids content, it forms an exceptionally tough bond capable of rivaling professional-grade products from top international brands. Its powerful adhesion serves as a perfect substitute for nails and screws, making it suitable for the vast majority of common indoor and outdoor building materials, including wood (including damp or frozen timber), metal, concrete, masonry, tile, marble, gypsum board, and various types of panels. It is particularly well-suited for construction-grade projects requiring long-term warranties or for outdoor installations in coastal areas with high salt-spray exposure.

Product Recommendation: Liquid Nail Adhesive Heavy Duty XMCN15

A brief summary of selection criteria for these four products: Choose XMCN08 for standard indoor wood or wall decorations; choose XMCN10 for delicate materials such as mirrors, lacquered surfaces, and plastic components; choose XMCN09 or XMCN15 for routine outdoor renovations involving decorative trim, signage lettering, or light fixture bases; and choose XMCN15 for large-scale outdoor projects, metal curtain walls, and heavy-duty applications requiring long-term durability. Each of the four products has its own strengths; selecting the right one based on the specific installation area and working conditions ensures both construction quality and effective control of material costs.

How do you use nail-free adhesive?

Depending on the weight of the materials and load-bearing requirements, the application methods for nail-free adhesive fall into three main categories. You can choose the method that best suits your specific project conditions:

  1. Dry Bonding Method (Suitable for lightweight materials)

Apply the adhesive in a zigzag pattern onto the bonding surface, spacing the beads 20–40 cm apart.

Press the adhesive-coated surface against the bonding area, then pull the surfaces apart to allow the adhesive to air-dry for approximately 5 minutes.

Once the adhesive surface feels slightly dry to the touch, press the two surfaces firmly together.

  1. Wet Bonding Method (Suitable for heavy materials)

Apply the adhesive to the product following the steps outlined in the dry bonding method.

Align the material with the bonding position and press it into place; use auxiliary tools such as clamps, nails, or screws to hold the surfaces tightly together.

Wait 24 hours before removing the clamps, then allow the assembly to sit for 1–3 days to ensure the adhesive fully cures.

  1. Load-Bearing Bonding Method (Suitable for objects requiring load-bearing capacity)

First, press the product firmly into the correct installation position.

Separate the bonded surfaces and wait about 5 minutes to allow for initial solvent evaporation.

Press the product back together and gently tap it into place with a tool.

If necessary, use a support prop underneath for temporary stability, removing it only after the adhesive has fully cured.
