XMC F99 Sprayable Polyurethane Foam

Sprayable PU Foam: On Large Areas, the Bottleneck Is Never the Material — It Is How Often You Stop

For small touch-ups, one cartridge can last half a day. Change the job to factory walls, cold-store envelopes, modular housing, roof voids or rows of pipe penetrations, and the rhythm changes immediately: the cartridge runs out, the gun stops, and the place where it stopped is where the joint shows. At inspection the question is rarely whether the gap was filled — it is whether the fill is continuous.

The productivity gap in continuous work is really a gap in area covered per hour. A spray route turns point-by-point dispensing into a continuous pass, cutting cartridge changes, stop-start cycles and the number of overlap seams at the same time. XMC F99 (Spray PU Foam) is a one-component polyurethane foam built around that logic: moisture curing, beige foam.

45–50 Times Expansion: One Cartridge Covers More Volume

According to the TDS, F99 expands approximately 45–50 times in the gun type and 35–40 times in the straw type, with cured densities of 25–30 kg/m³ and 30–35 kg/m³ respectively.

On large areas the expansion ratio matters more than on small joints. The same cartridge covers a larger cavity volume, so cartridge changes become rarer — and fewer changes mean fewer stop marks and less variation in thickness. Where a continuous surface is required, that decides both appearance and sealing integrity.

Low density carries practical value too. A cured density of 25–30 kg/m³ keeps the weight of the fill low, so foam applied in ceiling voids, facade cavities and lightweight envelopes does not become an additional structural load.

Strength: The Layer Has to Bond, Not Just Sit On Top

Spraying produces a continuous layer of foam, and its reliability depends on adhesion to the substrate. Without bonding, thickness is only coverage.

The TDS specifies tensile strength (aluminium panel) of 70–110 kPa and shear strength (aluminium panel) of 100–180 kPa (ISO 844:2021). These values indicate effective bonding to metal substrates after curing, able to carry a degree of pull-off and shear rather than merely resting on the surface.

Together with its closed-cell structure and moisture-curing system, the cured foam provides the basic sealing, thermal insulation and acoustic performance required for gap filling, cavity filling and insulation work.

Managing the Rhythm: Tack-Free in 5–10 Minutes, Clippable in 20–45

F99 is tack-free in 5–10 minutes, fully cured in 24 hours, with a clipping time of 20–45 minutes.

The risk on a large area is starting the next section only to find the previous one has already begun to cure. The way to use these figures is by zone: work back from the lower end of the clipping time to size each pass, divide the area into blocks, and complete filling and tooling block by block. That avoids working over a surface that has already skinned, and avoids leaving untooled edges in the rush.

After 24 hours the foam reaches full properties and finishing trades can follow — coatings, board, or direct exposure.

Site Conditions: Three That Cannot Be Skipped

  • Canister temperature above 5 °C before use: Cold cartridges dispense thicker and affect both atomisation and foaming; condition them before winter work.
  • Operating ambient 5–35 °C, optimal 18–25 °C: Temperature governs foaming speed and cell uniformity, and therefore whether a large area can be completed in one pass.
  • Minimum relative humidity ≥45%: Moisture curing draws on water vapour in the air; in very dry conditions the work area should be humidified per the process, or the core will not cure through and the cells will be soft.

Post-curing temperature resistance is -40 °C to +100 °C, covering typical factory, cold-store perimeter and building envelope conditions.

12-Month Shelf Life and Storage

F99 has a shelf life of 12 months. Store in a cool, dry place away from light, protected from heat and moisture, and rotate first-in first-out. Spray operations usually draw stock in batches against a project, so issuing in line with the installation schedule is preferable to opening a whole batch that then sits in storage.
